OVERVIEW
Indotronix’s decades long relationship with a leading telecom client is defined by a balance between market research to anticipate the client’s staffing needs followed by the pipelining of qualified candidates. Our approach is supported by an extensive referral network and constant communication with the client to ensure efficiency at every stage of the hiring process.
“The Telecom sector is defined by the relentless demand for connectivity”
The telecom industry is aggressive and fast paced, especially when it comes to staffing positions related to 5G, Data Science, and DevOps. Our account management team understands that the telecom industry will require these skill sets before any other and thus a lot of our job involves forecasting, supported by constant communication with the client. We begin pipelining candidates with useful skills and certifications before the jobs for which they are an ideal fit even exist.
Background
Our client is one of the world’s largest global telecommunications companies and the largest wireless carrier in the United States. This Fortune 500 behemoth has had a thriving relationship with Indotronix for the past 25 years. We cater to all telecom jobs: IT, Non-IT, and telecom engineering; delivering staffing solutions across the U.S. Innovation in the wider telecom landscape is being driven by 5G, AI, and cloud services. As networks evolve, telecom companies face increasing pressure to redefine their role in the ecosystem whilst balancing the need for operational efficiency and quality service. Telecom companies must therefore be responsive to new market trends to remain competitive. Companies staffing for the telecom sector must naturally be even more attentive. Here are a few notable trends that Indotronix has had to navigate and for which we have had to source talent in recent years:
- Migration from legacy systems to modern platforms
- Deployment of next generation technologies (5G, eNSE, Advanced Network Fabrics)
- Vendor shifts andeEquipment transitions (Nokia to Samsung, BBU and Radio Integration)
- Virtualization and cloud integration
- Infrastructure upgrades and fiber optic deployments
Challenges
As outlined by our account manager, the main issue with staffing for the telecom industry is that you “it is imperative to get the right person at the right time.” Every position requires the recruiter to consider a variety of variables such as:
- Specific skill sets and familiarity with certain technologies and frameworks
- Industry standards and regulations
- Certifications required for certain positions
A notable example would be a Network Engineer position that we recently placed that required candidates to have hands-on experience in Leaf and Spine network fabric, Cisco, and Nokia SR-OS, while also requiring a CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) certification. Furthermore, another requirement to consider was that this position specifically required helping the Core Network Engineering team with responsibilities in the South Central and Southeast markets. The only way to find the right person at the right time while considering all these different requirements is to pipeline aggressively and find them before they are explicitly needed.
Our Approach:
“We do not just react to the industry trends, we anticipate it”
Waiting for a position to appear before sourcing the right candidate for it is not fast enough for the telecom industry, so Indotronix engages in a lot of “skills”/”talent”/”resource” forecasting. Our account manager recalls how when 5G first came out in 2019, they promptly began to prepare for it.
Pipelining: Our recruiters approach pipelining by examining an overarching market trend, imagining the jobs it might produce, and collecting a pool of good candidates with the skills and certifications best suited to those jobs. This approach is continuously informed by conversations with the client and candidates in the field.
Examples:
- Indotronix responded to the trend of Fiber Optic Deployment by sourcing OSP Engineers with comprehensive knowledge in complex applications such as Microstation, ArcGIS/ESRI,3GIS, Google Earth, etc. With this role being 50% onsite, a qualified candidate would also have to knowledge of the network plant and local practices.
- Certifications such as CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) and CSSA (Certified Senior System Architect) were prioritized when pipelining candidates for the positions of Network Engineers or Data/Technical Architects. The former would then be deployed to handle the migration of core networks to eNSE fabric, which is critical to the client’s next-gen infrastructure, while the latter would find themselves driving the client’s transition from legacy systems to PEGA systems.
Expansive Networks:
Apart from proactively planning for what the market and our client may require, Indotronix also has established Corp-to-Corp networks that we leverage for certain niche skill sets. We connect with boutique companies, especially when it comes to cloud-based services or SaaS. We build exclusive relationships with these companies, encouraging them to send notable, prime candidates our way so that we may build up our pipeline or fill a particularly challenging position.
Streamlined Processes:
Our relationship with the client has been honed over 25 years. The account manager who has been managing this account for the past 14 years describes the Indotronix process as “smooth”. Client Managers refer potential candidates for their open positions to join through us, trusting our vetting process and our focus on quality assurance.
Results:
- Indotronix placed ~100 telecom roles with this client in 2024 alone. The positions ranged from Network Engineers to Data/Technical Architects.
- Placements made across all U.S locations.
Conclusion:
Indotronix’s approach to hiring for the telecom industry is defined by proactive pipelining, large candidate networks, industry expertise, and an unparalleled focus on quality and efficiency. In a fast-paced, dynamic industry that, staffing becomes a skilled and predictive process where we chart out the boundaries of the market, forecasting how it might grow, and planning accordingly. Indotronix is committed to sourcing the quality talent necessary to support next-generation technologies and drive future innovation.
