Job Overview:

Our highly prestigious client manages several key contracts for UK Defence, including programmes such as E-7 AEW&C, P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft, Chinook & Apache Fleet Support, C4ISTAR Services, and Logistic Information Services.

This role is for a Project Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager, supporting the Vertical Lift (VL) programme. The successful candidate will work closely with the Vertical Lift Chief Engineer to ensure project objectives are met. Based primarily in Bristol, with Yeovil as a secondary option, the role involves occasional travel and offers hybrid working flexibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate engineering teams across various skill areas, including internal and external resources.
  • Develop and manage Supplier Statements of Work (SSOWs) to meet programme needs.
  • Champion best practices in systems engineering, ensuring high-quality programme requirements with appropriate verification, allocation, and traceability.
  • Work with leadership to secure necessary approvals to maintain programme continuity.
  • Coordinate project proposal activities and ensure awareness of proposal milestones.
  • Identify key performance metrics and report on functional progress to leadership.
  • Assess and compare project performance against baseline plans to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Plan and coordinate resources, ensuring functional resource requirements are met and reported.
  • Respond to changing requirements, assess impacts, and negotiate changes in deliverables, costs, and schedules.
  • Provide technical coordination for the development and execution of project deliverables.
  • Apply and tailor best practices, engineering initiatives, and quality processes to support the programme.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and manage risks, issues, and opportunities.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field, with experience in systems or services requirements management.
  • Strong Project Planning and Management skills, excellent systems engineering (SE) knowledge, and solid IT skills.
  • Experience with Chinook and/or Apache rotorcraft platforms is highly desirable.
  • Registration with the Engineering Council (IEng or CEng), or the ability to work towards it.
  • Familiarity with Military Airworthiness Authority (MAA) Regulatory Articles.

  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK, as the client does not sponsor immigration or labour applications.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain UK security clearance, which necessitates five years of continuous UK residency.
